According to President-apparent Noynoy Aquino, his sister, Kris Aquino, will not be his First Lady as The Philippine Star reported on its May 22 issue.

As First Lady de facto (meaning in practice), maybe Kris can as Senator Mirriam Santiago pointed out.

In world politics, Park Geun-hye, a daughter of Park Chung-hee, president of South Korea from 1963 to 1979, became his father's First Lady de facto when her mother was assassinated.

Being First Lady in practice is a public service role in a democratic society and Kris may just be doing that after she proclaimed before the media this month that she will be serving alongside Noynoy.

Chances are when Kris takes on the role and dismisses being tagged the title, she will eventually just be labeled by the media as the classy author of the title's reinvention. Good for her. Nobody pays attention to what Noynoy and Kris say about anything in the past anyway. They are most of the time lauded only for speaking their minds in the moment. People no longer think in terms of time line these days. This creates a problem with people who want to take them seriously as a body of work but can't because most of what they say conflict with each other. Cases in point: Noynoy saying in January that he wouldn't impose taxes if he won but as early as March, after he had enticed voters in the provinces he changed mindset by saying that he would do the opposite; another is when Kris said that she would serve alongside Noynoy to render promises she made to people in the provinces but when she appeared on TV she exclaimed that she isn't going to serve for anybody's liking but Noynoy's. It is going to be interesting how they will feed on each other (strengths and weaknesses) for survival.
